IRIDE Students' Page

We are very proud of our students here at IRIDE.   People from all different walks of life take lessons here, and also take part in the other services we provide.  Below are some of our students and their horses.  Mary is also a purchasing agent, and has been involved in the purchase of quite a few of the horses below, too.  A full listing of what we offer is on our "services" page linked on the left.

Edie and Dance

Mary helped IRIDE student, Edie Bradshaw, find her lovely Hanoverian Schoolmaster, Dancing on Air, a couple months ago and they are becoming quite the team already!  Edie has been playing polo for quite a few years, and became interested in dressage.  She is having fun learning the dressage principles and applying them to both her dressage horses, AND her polo horses!  Mary also has a young horse of Edie's in training for dressage, and he is awesome!  Look for all of them in the dressage schooling and rated shows this season!
Well, Mary McGuire Smith is feeling old.  Pictured at right is Austin Harrelson, son of my student, Amy Chisholm (pictured below in 2006), so that means I am starting the second generation of students (I also have another daughter of a former student, whom I have yet to get a picture of....).
Austin has been ripping up the dressage arena with his partner, Anastasia (who officially became his horse on Christmas Day,2009).  Congratulations, Austin!!
His scores are as follows in the schooling shows, and he is ready for the USDF/USEF arena in First Level, for sure!

Dancing Horse Dressage Schooling Show  11-22-09

Training Level lest 4: 67.600
1st level test 1: 65.666
1st level test 2: 68.888

Atlantic Crossings/Starwood Sporthorse Dressage Series  12/19-09

1st level test 1: 64.160
1st level test 2: 68.000

UPDATE:  As you can see in the picture, Austin was already getting a bit tall for Ana, so Mary arranged for him to partially lease Obelisk "Obie", a 17hh Dutch Warmblood gelding from IRIDE student, Johanna Gromek, who has in turn purchased a beautiful 10-year old Danish Warmblood named Advokat, leaving less time for Obie.  So it seems it has turned out well for everyone!  Look for all of them in the show ring this season, as well!  We will update pictures as soon as we can!

Jennifer and Bogart w/ their ribbons
Jennifer is a long-time student of Mary's, and started leasing Bogart when we were all at Windsor, when another member of Windsor owned him.  Mary had found Bogart for the previous owner to lease for the season in 2004, and then fell in love with him and bought him before the season ended.  She and Jennifer were friends, and so Jennifer half-leased Bogart every season and rode and took lessons with Mary.  She was (and is) a great student and progressed very quickly.  When Windsor closed the barn, and Mary bought Bogart, Jennifer continued with the same agreement, leasing Bogart from Mary every winter.  Jennifer is now working on elements of First and Second Level, and attended her first show ever on February 27th, at the Starwood Series Dressage Schooling Show at Atlantic Crossing Stable in Vero Beach, and took home a first place and a second place ribbon, with scores of 69.17% (the second highest of the show!), and 65.70%.  Way to go, Jennifer!

Pictured at the right are Lauren with her daughter, Ruby, and William, their Haflinger pony.
I am working with Lauren on William's training, and Ruby gets her first riding lessons with her mom.
William is a very patient teacher, and his own training is coming along nicely.
He is pictured here in his full winter coat, which he has needed in our VERY unseasonably cold year here in Florida.
We are all looking forward to spring this year!  Ruby is going to be in the next generation of dressage stars!
As you can see, she is already leading by example in her well-fitted, approved riding helmet!
Her mom is giving her wonderful basics in dressage, and Ruby loves to ride William.

Mary Cathryn Donaldson has been a student of Mary's since 2002, and is pictured here riding her wonderful Friesian gelding, Aizefan E Sanning.  Mary McGuire Smith found Aize for Mary Cathryn in Sorrento, Florida, and helped the two form a solid team over the course of three years.  Aize helped Mary Cathryn develop her riding skills through third level dressage.  Mary Cathryn is now in college, and has sold Aize to a wonderful new young rider who is riding and showing him in the southeast region. Mary Cathryn still takes lessons when she is home from college during breaks. *Update--Mary Cathryn has now graduated from college with two degrees, and is starting her professional career!  Congratulations, Mary Cathryn!

Pictured at the right is Amy Chisolm at a schooling show with her cute Lipizzan/Quarter horse cross mare that Mary found for her in June, 2006.  She was already showing her successfully less than a month after purchasing her!  At the show where she is pictured, they cleaned up in the two training level classes they showed in with over 70% in each class for two first places!  Congratulations to them both! *Update--Amy's son, Austin, is now riding and taking lessons on Anastasia (Mary's second generation of students!), and has qualified for the 2009 4-H State Competition in several divisions, including a 3rd Place in dressage with a 62+%, and high placings in several hunter divisions, both in-hand and under saddle!  Congratulations, Austin!

dutch warmblood,

This is Jeff Young riding Bogart, Mary's Dutch Warmblood schoolmaster.  Jeff was the Stable Manager at Windsor and Mary helped him aquire Godiva, Windsor's Intermediare I level Dutch Warmblood mare.  Jeff continues to ride her and take lessons on her, and she is also available for upper level riders for lessons with Mary.  Mary is riding Godiva in the feature picture on all the pages in this website.  *update--Jeff and Godiva have moved on to new adventures in other parts of the United States and IRIDE wishes them both well!

Lori Frazier and her new horse, Khasar (aka Sox), went to their first dressage show at Grand Cypress Equestrian Center on April 7, 2007, and did very well!  They entered in dressage equitation and placed first, USDF Intro test A, and placed first with a 63%, and in USDF Intro test B placed first with a 64.27%.  They made a clean sweep with very good scores!  Congratulations, Lori and Khasar!
